Madrid Protocol Refusals

Canada has recently acceded to the Madrid Protocol.  Many of these applicants are receiving a Provisional Refusal of Protection under Rule 17.
The majority of these relate to the goods and services descriptions.  Descriptions that may be acceptable to WIPO are not in Canada.  Sorting this out can be quite complex.  Please contact us if you'd like more information on your options.

Direct Applications by Non-Canadians

There are many advantages to filing directly.  U.S. clients in particular find it easier than filing through Madrid.

We are experts in helping our clients navigate the similarities and differences of Canadian trademark law and practice.  We can help you get the best advantages from your trademarks by coordinating them.
